LONDON FASHION WEEK
DAY 2
It's been incredible to feel that I am slowly getting back into the groove with fashion. It is nearly impossible to do A LOT when you are constantly moving and traveling and never knowing how long you are going to stay or what exactly you are going to do. I guess a one-year contract will keep me grounded for a while.
London Fashion Week is always a mix of feelings, from a (now frequent) attendee of Paris Fashion Week, London feels weird in so many ways. Let's see if I can explain it to you..
As in every other industry, there are different levels of designers, events, press, etc. I have sat front row at John Galliano in Paris, and have been pushed back to standing in a student's presentation show in London, where the lads who seemed uninterested in the show, where telling other people to crouch so that they could see, while they laughed. In Paris, if there is an empty seat they bring people from stand to complete the last rows. In London, I've witnessed these 50 something women stealing gift bags from the rows in front of them (including mine). Also in London, I get a lot fewer shows, when most are students. Students put friends and family on the front row instead of buyers and press. You would hardly (if ever) see that in Paris.
Also in London, you see people who can't tell which season is being presented or what was the main trend on the runway after the show, attending the show. This makes me think that PRs can't tell one from another when sending invites and seating people. I've seen people attending shows for literally nothing other than simply going to a random event. Might not even look at the runway. While in Paris if you're pushed back you're sad because you won't be able to see the shoes, standing is sometimes a better option.
Because of such, important people from the industry like Anna Wintour, Catherine Rotherfield and many, many others. Started skipping London as a must-stop during Fashion Week. Students presenting, under the bad organization and poor quality of attendees. Artists, celebrities and big names from magazines are very likely to stop by just for one show and leave, like Tommy Hilfiger this year.
It's essentially a bubble because then, the big designers will turn to other cities to show their collections, to make it easier for the major attendees to even want to come see their collections. Leaving London with it's students .. and Burberry. (not literally, but eventually, if they don't do anything about it..)
So you could ask, why is it even mentioned as a must-stop? It used to be good, and history makes it special, Alexander McQueen and Viviane Westwood among others made it popular. But the way I see it, it is a must for menswear. London in good with tailoring and what you would call, well made boring clothing. (lol but it's true)

About the look, I am wearing this double-breasted blazer (I know the name is terrible, but that's what we are calling it this season) in turquoise of course.. I can still hear people saying "turquoise is coming" ha! but not this Winter (I think next one, with purples and golds). The mesh bodysuit was a pleasant surprise, I have a very good review on all these pieces (and much more) coming up on youtube, make sure to find me there and subscribe so that you don't miss it. This Kenzo bag, I don't even need to mention at this point, it's my baby Kalifornia. And the earrings UH! the earrings! I thought this would look bad on me, (I haven't worn earrings since, like, 7th grade) so this was a major move lol. It looked good. These were sent to me by Adornmonde.
